The European Union is preparing a month-long programme focused on artificial intelligence, bringing together policymakers, researchers, technology companies and investors to explore how AI can strengthen Europe’s competitiveness.
European AI Innovation Month will run from 14 October to 17 November 2026. The initiative, organised by the European Commission in partnership with Ireland’s EU Council Presidency, aims to showcase European AI research and encourage businesses and public institutions to adopt the technology.
Three major events will shape the programme
The programme opens in Dublin on 14 October with an International AI Summit, bringing together political leaders, business executives, investors and researchers.
An AI in Science Summit follows on 15 October, focusing on how artificial intelligence can accelerate scientific discovery. Discussions are expected to cover the opportunities for research, industry and public policy.
The programme concludes on 17 November with the Apply AI Summit in Brussels and online. The event will focus on practical AI adoption across industry and public services.
Turning research into real-world applications
Europe has strong universities, research institutions and specialist technology companies, but turning scientific advances into widely used commercial products remains a challenge.
The EU wants to encourage AI adoption in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture and public administration. Better access to computing infrastructure, data and investment will be important if European companies are to compete internationally.
The initiative also reflects Europe’s attempt to develop AI while maintaining safeguards for privacy, safety and fundamental rights.
What to watch
The key question is whether the programme will lead to concrete partnerships, investment and deployments rather than simply more discussion.
For European businesses, the events could provide opportunities to identify AI suppliers, meet investors and learn about emerging applications. For policymakers, they offer a chance to coordinate efforts across countries and industries.
