ASML raises its outlook as AI chip demand continues to surge

Netherlands · 14 October

Dutch semiconductor-equipment maker ASML has raised its full-year 2026 sales outlook to €44–45 billion, citing strong demand for the machines used to manufacture advanced chips. Reuters reports that orders are arriving well into the coming years, as major chipmakers expand capacity to support AI computing.

ASML is especially important because its advanced lithography equipment is essential to producing some of the world’s most sophisticated semiconductors. These chips power AI training, inference and the data centres behind many modern AI services.

Why does this matter beyond the Netherlands?

AI growth is creating demand across an entire industrial ecosystem: chip designers, semiconductor manufacturers, equipment suppliers, data-centre operators and energy providers.

ASML’s outlook suggests that the current investment cycle is translating into substantial demand for physical infrastructure. It also gives the Netherlands an important position in the global AI supply chain, even though many leading AI model developers are based outside Europe.

However, strong equipment demand does not mean every AI investment will generate a profit. The industry still faces questions about costs, energy use, supply constraints and how quickly customers can turn new computing capacity into sustainable revenue.

What to watch next: whether ASML can expand production quickly enough to meet demand and whether chipmakers continue to commit to large AI infrastructure projects through 2027 and beyond.
